Financial inclusion for all: ABA sponsors Safe Finance book program
09/Oct/2024
Demonstrating its commitment to enhancing financial literacy, ABA Bank became Platinum Sponsor of the Strengthening Safe Finance in Community program. The initiative aims to increase financial literacy, rights, and consumer protection in Cambodia's rural communities by increasing safe access to formal financial services.
The Program was initiated and developed by the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) and the Cambodian Microfinance Association (CMA), with support from Credit Bureau Cambodia (CBC), the Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC), various financial institutions, and related NGOs.
The official dissemination workshop was held on 8 October 2024 at the Center for Banking Studies under the esteemed presence of H.E. Yim Leat, NBC's Deputy Governor, with approximately 220 attendees.
With five Safe Finance training modules covering fundamental financial literacy topics, the Program reached its pilot phase in 4 provinces: Kampong Thom, Kampong Speu, Svay Rieng, and Battambang. As a result, more than 15,000 participants were informed and benefited from the Program.
Following a successful trial period, the Safe Finance book program is set to expand. NBC and CMA have decided to publish and distribute 7,500 additional copies to the communities, with plans for further expansion based on the project's success and support.
Following its Corporate Social Responsibility Framework, ABA has always been actively supporting financial literacy-related initiatives, including NBC's "Let's Talk Money" kid's comic books in Siem Reap, as well as the launch of its own Financial Literacy program for remote villagers in Ratanakiri.
ABA continues to remain steadfast in promoting financial inclusion for all Cambodians, ensuring everyone has the necessary knowledge to make informed financial decisions for the betterment of their future.
